Snapchat will launch a gambling platform for its sociable media iphone app next month, according to Cheddar. The service (codenamed “Project Cognac”) has been rumored for awhile, and may reportedly feature externally developed games that will work inside the Snapchat app. It appears just like the gambling tab just unveiled by Facebook, which features Prompt Games, eSports streaming, and more. Google is also about to make a large gaming announcement at GDC the following month, possibly to launch an unique system.
Snap has been battling to increase user progress, but recently declared that it had boosted earnings last quarter by thirty-six percent. Jumping into video gaming could be a way to bump both users and revenue. Snap entrepreneur Tencent, the world’s biggest gaming company, indicated a year ago that it may work together with the social mass media company on games. Tencent’s mobile gaming earnings has dropped lately due to tighter regulations in China and tiawan, so working together with Snap in other regions might create sense.
Snap recently bought an Australian gaming company called Prettygreat and web-affiliated game engine startup PlayCanvas. Apparently, Snap will discover original shows and other content at its first developer conference in Mis Angeles on April fourth, but the key reveal will be around gaming. “Less talk.
